Summer Fun on the West Bank

Summer is here and there’s a lot of fun things to do all around town. Here are a few starting points, to give your summer plans a jump start.

Grand Isle Car and Bike Show

On May 6th, Grand Isle will be hosting their annual car and bike show benefiting Children’s Hospital at the Grand Isle Tarpon Pavilion, 4500 LA Hwy 1, Grand Isle. Registration on the day of the show is $30, plaques will be awarded to the winners and there will be music and food.

 

 

Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo

The oldest fishing tournament in the United States. Grand Isle, Louisiana is the place to be July 27, 28, & 29. Fishing, Live Music, Great Food, Crab Races for the kids, summer fun for everyone! Westwego Farmers and Fisheries Market Friday Night Concert Series

Concerts will be held on Friday nights monthly outside at 484 Sala Avenue in Westwego. Bands featured will be Darockits on June 9th, Brad Sapia and 4th of July fireworks on June 30th, Justin Adams on July 28th, Velvet Kick on August 18th, Aaron Foret on September 8th, and Southpaw on October 20th. The concerts are from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm and they are free admission and free parking with plenty of space for children to run and play. Food and drinks will be available and there will be crafts for sale.

Woodlands Conservancy

Located at 1112 Engineer’s Road in Belle Chasse, Woodlands Conservancy is a nature trail and preserve that is the regional model for the conservation of hardwood forests and a leader in the advocacy and preservation of Louisiana’s coastal forest ecosystem. Citizens are invited to come and hike the trails in one of the region’s last stand of bottomland hardwoods. The trail is open to the public for free daily, from dawn to dusk. Be sure to bring binoculars so that you can observe the many species of birds that call this piece of land home.

 

Friday Night EZ Bike Ride in the City of Gretna

Beginners and seasoned bike riders alike are invited to join in on the Friday Night EZ Bike Ride that departs every Friday evening (usually around 8pm) from the corner of Huey P. Long Avenue and 1st Street in Gretna. This event is weather permitting, so please check the Gretna Social Ride Facebook page for more information.
