Deputy McLin was also honored in part for his response to a structure fire. Deputy McLin was among the first of those responding to arrive, and found the residence engulfed in flames. He entered the residence without any safety equipment in an attempt to rescue a person inside. He was forced out of the residence when he himself was overcome by smoke, and had to be treated for smoke inhalation. While his effort was unsuccessful, the mere attempt shows his bravery and commitment to serving the citizens of the parish.
For his efforts throughout the month, including several notable arrests and risking his own safety in a rescue attempt, Deputy Justin McLin was selected as the Second District Deputy of the Month. Deputy McLin was able to take 2 firearms from the hands of narcotics offenders, and also recover two stolen vehicles.
