Adams Named New Executive Director of Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board

Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser announced the selection for the next leader of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board today with the hiring of former state representative Bryan Adams as the executive director.

The position was left vacant a month ago when the former director, Karen Profita, took a national position with the Audubon Society. Adams served in the state legislature for nearly two terms, and he also worked for governors Bobby Jindal and John Bel Edwards in various capacities from involvement in homeland security to serving as a legislative liaison.

As a state representative, Adams served on the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, the Judiciary Committee and the Appropriations Committee for a number of years. While serving he was intimately involved in the creation and the development of the state’s budget, capital outlay process and oversight through his service on the Judiciary Committee. Adams addressed the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board during their meeting on Wednesday, June 14. He discussed his plans to promote Louisiana seafood throughout America and the world.

In his role as executive director, Adams will be tasked with managing the agency’s finances, overseeing its marketing program and coordinating various events throughout the state and country highlighting the benefits and excellence, and premier taste of our Louisiana seafood.

“Adams’ legislative experience will benefit the Louisiana seafood industry tremendously as we fight the cheap imports and unfair regulations threatening every aspect of the seafood industry,” said Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser. “We all know our seafood tastes better, and I look forward to working with him and the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board to increase awareness of the health benefits of eating Louisiana seafood.”

Adams previously worked for an oilfield services company in a management position and assisted with purchasing while simultaneously serving as a volunteer firefighter for over 30 years.

“It is an honor to be given this opportunity to promote Louisiana’s seafood. I believe my passion for Louisiana and experience in the legislature will be tremendously helpful not only in marketing our seafood, but it will also help raise awareness for the benefits of eating domestic seafood not just here, but throughout the country,” said Adams.

The Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board was created in 1984 and is comprised of members representing the various species of shrimp, catfish, alligator, oyster and crawfish as well as the various seafood processing industries, task forces and the restaurant industry. In addition the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board is responsible for overseeing the funding received as a result of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill incident used for improving the perception and promoting the benefits of Louisiana seafood following that disaster.
