Academy of Our Lady’s Law and Civic Leadership Internship Class met with Mayor of Gretna

Academy of Our Lady faculty member and Law and Civil Leadership Internship Teacher Alice Snee, senior Trinity Velazquez, of Marrero; senior Aysia Wade, of Gretna; Mayor of Gretna Belinda C. Constant, senior Bailey Barnes, of Marrero; senior Deja Hansell, of New Orleans; senior Allison Hill of Westwego and senior Sara Hurst, of Gretna.

Academy of Our Lady’s Law and Civil Leadership Internship class visited Gretna City Hall on March 29th. The students had the opportunity to meet with the Mayor of Gretna, Belinda C. Constant, an alumna of Archbishop Blenk High School and the first woman elected Mayor of Gretna. The Law and Civil Leadership Internship students were intrigued to learn about Mayor Constant’s career including how she became interested in public office and how she discerned running for mayor.

Senior Aysia Wade presented Mayor of Gretna Belinda C. Constant with a gift of Academy of Our Lady memorabilia on behalf Academy of Our Lady and her classmates.

Law and Civil Leadership Internship and Law studies are two classes offered as part of Academy of Our Lady’s Program of Academic Majors, which allows to students shadow professionals in various fields. Academy of Our Lady’s Program of Academic Majors encompasses three other concentrations of study including Health Science, Culinary Arts and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). In conjunction with Academy of Our Lady’s college preparatory curriculum, the Program of Academic Majors paves way for students to further develop an interest they may wish to pursue on the collegiate level.
