Academy of Our Lady Students Attend HOSA Louisiana Spring Leadership Conference

Academy of Our Lady students interested in the medical field had the unique opportunity to attend the Spring Leadership Conference hosted by HOSA Louisiana at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on March 9-11. HOSA, Health Occupations Students of America, is a national organization for aspiring health care professionals. The organization emphasizes mastery of the National Health Science Standards and career readiness.

The conference consisted of competitive events related to health care topics including CPR, first aid and medical terminology. Students attended various workshops led by physicians, forensic anthologists, nurses and EMTs.
Senior Kelly Herrera, of Marrero; junior Kayla Maitreme, of Marrero and junior Breanna Perkins, of Harvey placed first in the state for a public service announcement on emergency preparedness  they worked together to create. Junior Kayla Maitreme, of Marrero place third on the Behavioral Health Knowledge test given at the convention. Pre-freshman Emily Lubag, of Harvey placed second in the middle school division of medical terminology.
