Family Housing Opens at Children’s Hospital

Children’s Hospital’s Hogs House opened with fanfare and fun all in the name of helping families of children receiving medical treatment far from home. Hogs for the Cause, a 501(c)(3) organization pledged $2.1M to renovate a 1920s townhouse on the former military hospital campus so families from other parts of the state seeking care for their children at Children’s Hospital, can stay close.

Hogs for the Cause teams and supporters joined in celebrating with a dedication and open house on Thursday, Sept. 27th.

“Being able to make a huge difference for so many families has been the engine that makes us raise even more money each year,” said Becker Hall, founder and CEO of Hogs for the Cause. “We started Hogs for the Cause to help one family, but now our donations will be a “home away from home” for so many more.”

The Hogs House will serve as on-campus housing for families from outside the New Orleans region who have a child receiving ongoing treatment at Children’s Hospital.

“By providing a place to stay for families who need it, when they need it, the Hogs House will be an extension of the healing environment,” said John R. Nickens, IV, president and CEO of Children’s Hospital. “It will be a place of rest and respite for families whose children are fighting critical illnesses.”

The house includes 13 family suites with private bathrooms, common areas with two family lounges, kitchen spaces, and a laundry room. For more information, visit our website at www.chnola.org/Hogs.
