Archbishop Shaw High School and Academy of Our Lady name their Vals and Sals

Archbishop Shaw High School of Marrero held its annual Baccalaureate Mass Friday, May 18th at Immaculate Conception Church in Marrero with Father Louis Molinelli, SDB, Director of Archbishop Shaw as the principal celebrant and homilist. The Valedictorians and Salutatorians were announced at the Baccalaureate Mass.

The Valedictorians were Joshua A. Mitchell and Jacob N. Van. Joshua is the son of Angela Mitchell and Roger Mitchell of Marrero. He will attend The University of Holy Cross with a major in Pre-Law and he received the Sylvia Ricks Westbank Optimist Club Scholarship as well as the TOPS Performance Award. Jacob is the son of Victor Van and Anh Nguyen of Harvey. He will attend Louisiana State University with a major in Biology and he received the Sylvia Ricks Westbank Optimist Club Scholarship, the Jackie Cambre St. Joseph’s Women’s Society Award, the Knights of Columbus Catholic Youth Leadership Award, and the TOPS Performance Award.

The Salutatorians were named as Christian S. Asevedo, Vincent K. N. Nguyen, and Colin J. Palazzo. Christian is the son of Marlena and the late Harold Asevedo of Gretna. He will attend Loyola University with a major in Business and he received the Loyola Dean’s Scholarship and the TOPS Honors Award. Vincent is the son of Lien and Loi Nguyen of Marrero. He will attend Loyola University with a major in Biology and he received the Loyola Dean’s Scholarship and the TOPS Performance Award. Colin is the son of Boni and Richard Palazzo of Marrero. He will attend Texas A&M with a major in Maritime Transportation and he received the TOPS Performance Award.

Academy of Our Lady of Marrero celebrated its eleventh baccalaureate mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Marrero and commencement exercise at the Alario Center in Westwego on May 15. Diplomas were awarded to 118 graduates by Principal Sister Michelle Geiger. Dr. RaeNell Houston, Superintendent of Catholic Schools of Archdiocese of New Orleans, addressed the graduates during the commencement exercise.

The valedictorian was Caroline Lassere, of Marrero. Lassere plans to attend University of Louisiana Lafayette on scholarship. The salutatorian was Sandy Vo, of Harvey. Vo plans to attend Xavier University of Louisiana on scholarship.
