Legacy Kitchen’s Steak + Chop

A few months ago, I wrote a piece about new restaurants on the Westbank. Among them was Legacy Kitchen Steak + Chop, located at 91 Westbank Expressway in Gretna. My write up was brief and since then I have visited several times and I have enjoyed my experience every time.

I feel as if I am always on the search for a really good burger, especially on the Westbank where the burger options are somewhat limited. My burger quest is what originally brought me to this Legacy Kitchen location. I had heard raves about this restaurant, even though it hadn’t been open very long, so I had to see for myself what all the fuss was about. I came here for lunch and I immediately liked the cool and casual vibe of the place. This Legacy location is first and foremost a steak house and it definitely has that feel as you take in the space. I like that it has a modern steakhouse feel without being cold or unwelcoming.

I decided to start with the onion rings, as onion rings is another food that I seem to crave pretty regularly and finding the “perfect” onion ring can be tough. I should have known that Legacy would do onion rings well- a huge pile of lightly battered and golden fried rings was set in front of me. Enough for two or three people, the rings were perfect and a delicious start to my meal. Then it was time for my burger. I decided to keep it simple and get their classic cheeseburger which comes cooked to order and topped with cheddar cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, red onion and pickles. I always get a little nervous when ordering a burger because a lot of places tend to overcook it. That was not the case here at all- not only was the burger cooked to medium juicy perfection, but this thing was huge! It was all piled high on a delicious, soft bun with so much cheese that it made my heart happy. Once I took a bite, I knew that I had found my burger soul mate on the Westbank. The burger was so yummy that I have been back for more again and again and I have even been recommending it to friends. I can’t say enough about this tasty treat.

If burgers aren’t really your thing, you can stop in for what Legacy Steak + Chop does best- steak. You can choose from delicious cuts of filet mignon, rib eye, New York strip, a pecan crusted bone-in filet or other bone-in featured cuts. If you are ready to bring decadence to the next level, don’t hesitate to top your steak with your choice of grilled shrimp, lump crabmeat, blue cheese crust, sautéed onions or caramelized onions. They also have sauces such as hollandaise, béarnaise, and brandy green peppercorn, if you really want to make it a meal to remember. For people who might want to avoid red meat all together, Legacy Steak + Chop has delectable alternatives such as fried chicken and waffles, BBQ back ribs, American salmon and Redfish St. Charles. No matter what you are in the mood for Legacy is more than happy to accommodate you.

The goal of Legacy Steak + Chop is to provide a casual dining experience with a fine dining atmosphere on the Westbank. No corners were cut in accomplishing this and the entire restaurant was designed with this objective in mind. In order to add to the diner’s experience, Legacy has many delicious cocktails and wines that compliment any meal. Some favorites are the Legacy Martini, which is made with cranberry moonshine and the champagne lemon-cello cocktail which is a bubbly concoction made with Brut Cuvée. Legacy Steak + Chop is also proud to offer an assortment of red and white wine by the glass or bottle as well as bourbon and beer, both draft and bottled.

Whether you are looking for a casual lunch or you want to go out for dinner, Legacy Kitchen Steak + Chop is the quintessential dining experience. Whatever your mood, the folks at Legacy will take care of you and make you feel at home. Legacy Kitchen Steak + Chop is open daily 11:00 am to 1:30pm for lunch and 4:30pm to 9:00pm for dinner.
