In the latest evidence that West Jefferson is the home of accomplished, progressive health care institutions, Ochsner Medical Center—West Bank Campus recently was recognized by the American Heart Association for its outstanding care of patients with heart conditions. It was one of only six hospitals in Louisiana to receive the AHA’s Get With The Guidelines® Silver Performance Achievement Award.
“This achievement for our heart failure program demonstrates Ochsner– West Bank’s staff commitment to consistently delivering reliable, effective and high quality care to our heart failure patients,” says Dr. Mike O’Bryan, CEO of Ochsner Medical Center –West Bank. “This certification helps us consistently raise the bar for heart failure care.” The award recognizes commitment, success, and higher standard of patient care. More than 5.7 million Americans suffer from heart failure and 670,000 new cases are diagnosed each year, according to AHA statistics.
Hospitals that have received the Get With the Guidelines awards have lower mortality rates than other hospitals, and the silver award indicates institutions that provide 85 percent or higher compliance to core standard levels of care for 12 consecutive months. The AHA web site describes the program as “an evidence-based program for in-hospital quality improvement. It puts the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals, helping to ensure that the care they provide to coronary artery disease, stroke and heart failure patients is aligned with the latest scientific guidelines.”
